Civilian-Deferred Residency Programs

Part of regular ERAS application and Match process
Reservist during civilian residency
No military requirements during residency
Paid same salary as other residents at civilian GME program
14 spots each year

Civilian-Sponsored Residency Programs (Approved Unfunded)

Active duty while doing civilian GME residency
Year-to-year active duty service commitment (ADSC) requirement
Example: If you do a 4 year civilian residency, during residency you will get paid active duty military salary, but you will require an additional 4 years active duty commitment after completion of residency. If you were part the Health Professions Scholarship program (HPSP) during medical school, this will accrue an additional 4 years of active duty commitment for residency on top of the 4 years for medical school--a total of 8 years after residency.
