Housestaff Expectations
- Communicate any absence or potential change in shift to Dr. Neville, TSICU Attending, and Dr. Kim
- No eating or drinking in patient care areas
- Practice hand hygiene BEFORE & AFTER every patient encounter
- Maintain and protect PHI/patient confidentiality
Roles and Responsibilities
- Ensure that 2 WOWs are available for morning rounds
- Ensure that patient lists are printed and available by the start of rounds (06:00am)
- Discard of any extra patient lists in the confidential shredder located on the C-side of the TSICU
- Update and maintain patient list with new results, radiology reads/findings, and consult service recs
- Provide family and loved ones with updates, as appropriate
Communication & TeamSTEPPs
- Open and honest communication is crucial to decrease errors, enhance patient safety and teamwork
- Several TeamSTEPPS tools and techniques may be used (huddles, briefings, debriefs)
Conduct of Morning Rounds
- PRIOR to the start of morning rounds, the overnight R2, fellow, and overnight charge/relief RN, will determine the order of rounds based on the following:
- Severity of illness (Critical, unstable, stable)
- New admissions
- Potentially extubatable patients
- Other

Handoffs
- Handoffs are required for ALL transitions of care. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Admissions
- Transfers & Discharges
- Morning & Evening Passons
