Airway obstruction?
- Assess for history or concern for foreign body causing airway obstruction
Yes
No
Begin BVM
If BVM is not effective perform the following:
- Reposition Airway
- Check correct mask size
- Place OPA
- Check for gastric distention
Is BVM effective?
Yes
- Monitor and transport
No
- Place endotracheal tube or supraglottic airway
Is there effective oxygenation and ventilation?
Assess:
- ETCO2 Reading
- Misting in tube
- Equal breath sounds
- Direct visualization of the cords if ETT used.
Yes
- Monitor and transport
No
Check airway device
- Tube dislodged?
- Tube obstructed?
- Pneumothorax?
- Equipment failure?
