The University of Connecticut Integrated Residency in Emergency Medicine
Information
Since 1996, the University of Connecticut's Integrated Residency in Emergency Medicine program has graduated over 180 residents who have gone on to successful careers in all aspects of Emergency Medicine. I would like to help you understand why our program is special and why I hope that you will consider spending three of the most important years of your life with us.
Residency is more than the capstone of your clinical education as a physician — it will be key in determining your strengths and weaknesses as a physician in independent practice. We offer an intensive, comprehensive clinical experience, with our high acuity Level I trauma center at Hartford Hospital (our primary clinical site) receiving more than 100,000 patient visits per year. In order to give our residents a sense of the breadth of the clinical practice Emergency Medicine we provide rotations in a variety of clinical sites including the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, our suburban community site at the University of Connecticut Health Center, and the urban community-based Saint Francis Hospital Emergency Department in the north end of Hartford. Our total clinical complement exceeds 270,000 visits per year helping to ensure that you will be ready for any practice environment you choose upon graduation.
As an education-focused department, we have a vibrant, energetic faculty who are committed to supporting our residency and actively participate in our innovative weekly residency educational conferences. Our faculty have a wide variety of interests including Medical Simulation, Emergency Ultrasound, Toxicology, EMS and Hyperbaric Medicine. In addition we have an active faculty-led research program. The diversity of our faculty is key both from the standpoint of our educational program and in the ability of our residents to have ready access to career advising and mentorship as they formulate their career paths in Emergency Medicine
We pride ourselves on running a program which has a close knit, collegial atmosphere in which we all work together to further our goal to be the best emergency physicians possible. Our cohesive, team-based, supportive atmosphere helps make the challenges of residency manageable and fun.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to learn more about our program and consider becoming a member of the UConn family.
Regards,
Shawn London, MD
