Diagnosis

  • Ruled out organic causes
    • Substance abuse
    • Medications
    • No medical cause
  • Presence of two or more symptoms for one month
    • Delusions
    • Disorganized speech
    • Hallucinations
    • Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior
    • Negative Symptoms
  • Disturbance for at least 6 months
    • Less than 6 months is schizophreniform
  • Schizoaffective disorder and mood disorder ruled out

Management

  • Medical work up
    • CBC
    • Electrolytes
    • Tox screen
    • Etoh
    • CT head
    • Febrile
      • Look for organic causes
    • Review home meds

Disposition

  • Psyc Eval
