- Acute psychosis
- Schizophrenia
- Schizoaffective disorder
- Delusional disorder
- Schizotypal personality disorder
- Schizoid personality disorder
- Bipolar disorder with psychotic features
Organic Causes
- Meningitis
- Encephalitis
- Thyroid (Main)
- Tox Ingestions
Nonorganic Causes
- Schizoaffective disorder
- Mood Disorder
Evaluation
- Ruled out organic causes
- Substance abuse
- Medications
- No medical cause
- Presence of two or more symptoms for one month
- Delusions
- Disorganized speech
- Hallucinations
- Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior
- Negative Symptoms
- Disturbance for at least 6 months
- Less than 6 months is schizophreniform
- Schizoaffective disorder and mood disorder ruled out
Management
- Medical work up
- CBC
- Electrolytes
- Tox screen
- Etoh
- CT head
- Febrile
- Look for organic causes
- Review home meds
