Active duty while doing civilian GME residency

Year-to-year active duty service commitment (ADSC) requirement

Example: If you do a 4 year civilian residency, during residency you will get paid active duty military salary, but you will require an additional 4 years active duty commitment after completion of residency. If you were part the Health Professions Scholarship program (HPSP) during medical school, this will accrue an additional 4 years of active duty commitment for residency on top of the 4 years for medical school--a total of 8 years after residency.
