- Staphylococcus aureus is the main coagulase-positive staphylococcus, a gram-positive bacteria
- Sub-types are:
- Always consider a blood culture positive for Staphylococcus aureus to be true bacteremia (and not a contaminant) due to the danger of delaying treatment
